The Red Baron is a recurring nemesis of Snoopy while in his World War I Flying Ace guise in the Peanuts comic strip and many of the animated features based off it, and the main antagonist of the franchise (seeing as Lucy is more of an anti-hero). He is based off of the real life Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen, a German fighter pilot ace in World War I. In Snoopy's fantasies, he himself is a British (later American) pilot in a Sopwith Camel, trying to take down the Red Baron; but instead, his own plane is almost always shot down by his archenemy.
