  • The Criminal Investigation Division, or CID, was a division of the Royal Manticoran Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence, responsible for investigating criminal cases involving military personnel and property. CID Captain Irving Mandel was the senior officer assigned to the investigation of the attempted assassination of Admiral Honor Harrington. When she realized that Mandel did not believe that treecats were sentient and was disregarding the eyewitness testimony of Nimitz in favor of his own analysis of the visual record, Harrington relieved him of his authority over the investigation and replaced him with his deputy, Commander Jean Simon.
