During a frantic search for six-year-old Simon Barlow who had gone missing in Blackpool under the supervision of George and Eve Wilson during March 2010, Simon's father Peter and partner Leanne Battersby promptly left Weatherfield and joined in with the search upon hearing about his disappearance from a guilt-stricken Eve. Scouring the immediate area, Peter spotted a young boy on a fairground ride and clambered up to discover that the child - who was wearing similar clothes to his son when he was reported missing - wasn't Simon.

The child's Dad was quick to climb onto the ride and although Peter offered the man an apology and explaining how he mistakenly thought that the youngster was his missing son, the man was not interested in pleasantries and told Peter that if he so much as touched the boy, he'd "deck him".
