| - Our primary fusion of backgrounds can be attributed to Robert Howard and J.R.R. Tolkien. Game year is 550 of the 3rd Age: The Age of Steel (See Aereth History) In a past so distant even the myths and legends are barely remembered, existed the sub-continent of Lemuria. It was the home of three ancient human races known collectively as the Aeld and individually as the Aeldrayd, Aeldmiri, and Aeldwyr. The Lemurians rose to great heights of civilization, power and technology. As their power grew, the Talisman could no longer hold the arcane world in balance. In time, this attracted the attention of the Dark Lord and his denizens of the Dark Island which rose from the seas. The Aeld fought the Dark Lord and his minions, but in the end were defeated and Lemuria itself destroyed. The Aeldryad and Aeldmiri fled to the continent of Atlantis, taking their most cherished artifact, the Talisman, the seal that held all the magic of the world in balance and prevent the rise of the Dark Island again. The Aeldwyr eventually settled in the far east on the Amber Islands. As often happens, time dampened the memories of the Aeld on Atlantis, the world where all the Ley-Lines of the arcane met and merged, and again dark forces exerted their influence. Internal battles ensued ending a last horrific battle between the last of the High Lords and his son, Tarmúr. They fought in the Hall of the Talisman, killing one another and shedding their blood on the land and the Talisman. The Talisman shattered and splintered, its shards and fragments being scattered by the Four Winds. The Ley-Lines burned and Atlantis was destroyed by earthquake, voclanic eruptions, and massive tsunamis. When the catyclysm ended, not even a mountain peak of the great continent remained. The remaining Aeldryad and Aeldmiri had to, once again, seek a new home. Currently, Aereth is a widely settled land with civilizations that vary in power and technologies that parallel the mid-to-late Iron / Steel ages of earth. Game play will consist of forming alliances, some war and battles, quests, other adventures and day-to-day politics and living. Players will be encouraged to create their own stories and lead them as well as participate in over reaching RPG stories as they are created and put into play. Aereth will have established countries, city/states, etc. that characters can belong to. Adding rulers and nobles is encouraged as long as there are some characters dwelling in the chosen lands.
