His early upbringing significantly shaped Eddicus, instilling a strong sense of family and a strong planetary identity. His loyalty to the people of Taanab led Eddicus to join their meager defense force to protect the planet from annual raids by regional pirates. During his ten years in their militia, he rose from ensign to commanding general. While his career was marred with defeats early on, the eager commander studied tactics of war with earnest. Eventually, he was able to best the pirates and successfully defend his planet from perpetual attack.
