However, after Andy becomes valuable to the Warden, Boggs gets "mysteriously" beaten up by Captain Byron Hadley after his last vicious attempt on Andy, whereupon his jaw is broken and he is paralyzed. Boggs is transfered to a mental insecurity hospital upstate, and Red states that, to his knowledge, he "spent the rest of his days drinking his food through a straw". Boggs is portrayed by Mark Rolston in the movie adaptation.
