During the New Sith Wars, starships had crisscrossed the Mid Rim to either escape or expedite the warring between the Sith and the Jedi. Without time or purpose to survey and document every potentially hospitable planet they came across, most ships would just record any anomalies in their sensor logs and go on to their next destination. After the end of the Wars, the newly reformed Republic made an effort to acquire and examine those sensor logs, trying to discover any possible hiding places for superweapons, garrisons, facilities, or resources. Some four dozen survey ships of various classes were dispatched to "chase logs" throughout the region. Resplendent XI, under the command of Captain Icaris Hood, was sent to Bimmisaari first to outfit and prepare supplies, then sent towards the Cronese Mandate and Tion Hegemony on a long, winding route that would take it through no less than ten thousand star systems. The entire voyage was expected to last at least five years. About two years into the voyage, Resplendent XI arrived at the Republic's Ordinance & Resupply Depot world of Ord Thera to fully offload its findings, take on fresh supplies, and receive any updates from Republican offices. There, it was ordered to begin examining the "derelict zones", strewn with hundreds of uninhabited star systems, nebula, and dust clouds so tangled that not even the Hutts had bothered to explore. Several months later, and after a few harrowing run-ins with "unfriendlies", the survey ship stopped in at a tiny outpost called Kasputin Station in the Yariz system. There, the surveyors were appraised of the numerous hazards that awaited them on their upcoming travels towards the Cronese Mandate. The ship departed, and began surveying the first of two dozen star systems that lay in their path before they'd be able to get a good fix on navigating towards the more populated systems beyond. One of those systems, though, turned out to be not only hospitable, but already populated. Two worlds amongst five planets and two rather impressive asteroid fields were inhabited, and Sciences Specialist Dobruhn convinced Captain Hood to investigate the nearer, less populated planet first, in case the inhabitants proved to be hostile. Thus, in 989 BBY, the Resplendent XI alighted on what would be known as Caspar. Soon, the ship was headed to the second planet, Mergansar, to reunite two separated peoples. Weeks of hospitality later, Resplendent XI departed, relaying a message to the nearest Republican world that it had found a system in need of further surveying and possibly open for settlement. The ship went on to several hundred more systems before finally arriving at Ord Grovner and Courkrus, its five years completed.
