Alessandro 'Alex' Zanardi is a racing driver and paracyclist from Italy, who competed in Formula One between 1991 and 1999 and won three medals, including two golds, at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, becoming the first Formula One driver to win any kind of Olympic medal. The closest any other came to winning was Alfonso de Portago's fourth place (partnered with Vicente Sartorius y Cabeza de Vaca) in the two-man bobsleigh at the 1956 Winter Olympics.
