The Canadian federal election of 2000 was held on November 27, 2000 as called by President Paul Martin upon the recommendation of Prime Minister David M. Collenette. The incumbent minority government Liberals gained six seats to bring them within five seats of an outright majority, while the Social Democratic and Progressive Conservative Party both lost seats. The Canadian Alliance, led by Stockwell Day, gained four seats. It was regarded largely as a status-quo election, coming during modest but apparent economic growth in much of Canada and with vote splitting prevalent amongst the right.
