| - Preston Road Estate is a large council housing estate in East Hull. The estate has a population of approximately 6,000. Preston Road runs through the estate, which is bound by Marfleet Lane in the East, and Southcoats Lane in the West. To the south is a disused railway line, and beyond there the docklands, '7 alleys', and Hull prison. The Holderness Drain cuts the estate into Eastern and Western halves as it flows down to the Humber. The estate was constructed in 2 stages; part was built in the inter-war years, and then a second part was developed in the postwar years.

The Holderness Drain cuts the estate into Eastern and Western halves as it flows down to the Humber. The estate was constructed in 2 stages; part was built in the inter-war years, and then a second part was developed in the postwar years. The estate became more run down in the 1980s and early 1990s, however since the millennium, parts of the estate, principally the inter-war housing, have been pulled down and the land redeveloped. In 2011 a new school was opened on the estate. The regeneration has been overseen by the Preston Road Neighbourhood Development Company, and has been funded by the 'New Deal for Communities' scheme since 2000. The Estate rose to national attention in 2008 when the Duchess of York made an ITV documentary where she tried to encourage a family living on the estate to have a healthier lifestyle and diet.[1]
