Head mostly dull turquoise to slate blue, ear coverts dark or black. * Hapalopsittaca melanotis peruviana: Eastern Peruvian Andes (incl. higher parts of Manu National Park), 2800-3400m. Head mostly green with bluish neck band, ear coverts dull red.
