Chapman started his National Hockey League career with the Boston Bruins in 1930. He also played for the New York Americans and retired after the 1940 season. In 1938, he was a member of the NHL All-Star Team. He played junior hockey with the Winnipeg Tammany Tigers in 1923-24. He also played senior hockey for various teams in Manitoba and the Thunder Bay region, winning the Allan Cup with Port Arthur in 1925-26. Chapman turned pro with the Springfield Indians in 1927-28 and played two seasons with the Providence Reds from 1928-30.
