  • Battle droids are dangerous, cutting edge weapons: the latest thing to come out of the laboratories of Merr Sonn. Almost all battle droids are of sentient size and shape, and have the ability to speak several languages. They have complex artificial intelligences which gives them more "character", like protocol droids. Battle Droids made their first appearance in Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace as the intimidating robot army invading Naboo, a Republic planet. It is unclear wether they have actually acheived singularity, but in movies 2 and 3 and several episodes of Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures, they have shown the capacity and ability to think and act for themselves. They are equipped with a standard blaster and supply backpack to use during battle. They are also depicted using sniper rifles and heavy machine guns in video games Star Wars Battle Front 1 & 2 and many others. Standard battle droids, though usually large in number, are generally weak due to their unprotective armour and incompetant leadership.

Because of their character, they are known to be a little unpredictable when not fitted with a restraining bolt. Despite their strong personalities and thus questionable loyalties, some people find battle droids worth the bother. The newest models are terrifyingly deadly with a blaster; it's like buying a fully-trained soldier rather than hiring some untried street thug or a half-rate bodyguard.
