  • Melee Damage is a derived statistic in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout Tactics.
  • Melee damage (or Hack Damage in Age of Mythology) is the value in Age of Empires games for how much damage a unit inflicts at close range. With the exception of attack bonuses, damage dealt by units in Age of Empires and Age of Empires II remains constant regardless of the type of unit. In Age of Mythology, some units have special abilities that can temporarily boost the damage amount of themselves and/or other allied units around them. Age of Mythology also doesn't specifically have "Melee Damage" as all infantry use Hack Damage, including the ranged Throwing Axeman.
  • Melee Damage is the type of Physical Damage delivered by a Melee Attack. When two units are locked in face-to-face combat, the attacker will deliver this damage to its target. Simultaneously, the target delivers Melee Damage against its attacker, in a process called a Counter Attack. The amount of damage delivered is based primarily on each unit's File:Icon Melee Normal.png as indicated in the unit's details window.

abstract
  • Melee Damage is the type of Physical Damage delivered by a Melee Attack. When two units are locked in face-to-face combat, the attacker will deliver this damage to its target. Simultaneously, the target delivers Melee Damage against its attacker, in a process called a Counter Attack. The amount of damage delivered is based primarily on each unit's File:Icon Melee Normal.png as indicated in the unit's details window. As with all other types of Physical Damage, Melee Damage attempts to inflicts actual File:Icon Damage.png on the target. To do this, the attacker must make File:Icon ToHit.png rolls to determine the accuracy of the attack, and the defender may make File:Icon ToBlock.png rolls to try and block some of this incoming damage. Much of the process is based on random rolls - and many of them. Therefore, a unit will not always deliver the same amount of Melee Damage with each Melee Attack or Counter Attack it makes. However, statistical calculations can reveal how much damage a unit is likely to deliver with each attack, and how much damage it can deliver in an exceptionally luck attack.

Age of Mythology also doesn't specifically have "Melee Damage" as all infantry use Hack Damage, including the ranged Throwing Axeman. In Age of Empires III most ranged units have a separate melee attack. Melee attacks have different damage and different damage multipliers than a unit's normal ranged attack. If the player has advanced formations turned on for their units, they can switch a group of ranged infantry, such as Musketeers, to use melee attack. This is useful if they want their musketeers to attack cavalry, because the Musketeer's melee attack has a damage multiplier against cavalry, while the ranged attack does not.
