Francis (Frank) Kane was discovered by Kermit Love at the University of Hawaii and brought to New York to take over the back end of Mr. Snuffleupagus from Brian Muehl. Kane played that part for the 1979 season. Another Kermit Love discovery, Bryant Young, was next in line. In 1981, Kane played Baxter on The Great Space Coaster, which also featured Kevin Clash, John Lovelady, Jim Martin and Noel MacNeal. For this role, he was credited as "Francis Keane".
