The Prince Regent, later George IV, ruled for the period in which his father, King George III, suffered a mental disease. The Prince Regent was nicknamed 'Prinny.' In the Sharpe books, Sharpe renames the South Essex Regiment the Prince of Wales' Own Volunteers to gain the Prince's favour.
