He is the teacher for the player along with Chief Daruma who wishes to train and enhance the player's abilities and strengths. He has a secret about the player's origin, but wants to hold onto it for the right moment in time. Though Kiichihougen looks very young, it is hinted in the quest, Regaring Kiichi, that he may be over 100 years old, as the person who went to apply for Onigashima's recognition of sovereignty at the Shogunate was also named Kiichi.

During the Summer Yukata Festival, Kiichihougen remembers the times when he would accompany the player as a little child through the festival as the player held onto his Yukata for guidance.
