Lag trailing is actually simple when written out: simply drive in front of the opponent, not directly into them. Why not into them? The opponent is actually ahead of where you see them on the screen. This is due to an unavoidable delay as information is relayed between player and server. Where the player actually is will collide with the opponent's on-screen position moments later.
