- After working on local news shows, Shimokawa was hired by Norman Lear as a stage manager, working on All in the Family beginning in 1972. By 1975, he was promoted to associate director and eventually became the primary director on Archie Bunker's Place from 1980-1983. He also directed the pilot to Welcome Back, Kotter and was director or associate director (often both) on Good Times, The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls, Night Court, Alice, Laverne & Shirley, and Fish. Other shows included ALF, Saturday morning series Mister T (directing Mr. T in live-action intros), Good Morning, Miss Bliss and its successor Saved by the Bell, Amen (with Sherman Hemsley), Coach, Reba, and Titus
