Zois was the wife of Khesphmois, master carpenter and one of the guild leaders in Alexandria, Egypt. She was in her early thirties, slim and short with high cheek-bones in her swarthy face and large dark eyes. She convinced her husband to explain the carpenters' side of the anakhoresis to Basil Argyros. Shortly before Argyros left the city, she seduced him to take revenge on her husband's affair with Lukra, a household servant girl.
