Rob Holmes is a goalkeeper who joined Rovers in October 2009, when he joined from Kidderminster Harriers as an 18 year old. While with the Kidderminster youth team he won a league and cups treble during the 2008–09 season, and Rovers saw enough promise in Holmes to award him his first professional contract, which lasted until the end of the 2009-10 season. He was released on expiry of that deal however, without having made any first team appearances.

Rob's only call up to the first team squad came on 6 November 2009 in an FA Cup first round defeat to Southampton. Regular keeper Mikkel Andersen, who was on loan from Reading, did not receive permission from his parent club to become cup-tied, moving Rhys Evans into the starting eleven and freeing up a spot on the bench for Holmes.
