The Central African Republic (CAR) is a landlocked country located in the very centre of Africa. The local Bantu, Chadic and Sudanic people overran most of the Pigmies in circa 900- 1000AD. The CAR then became part of the French colony of Equatorial Africa and then the separate colonies of Ubangui Chari. It gained independence in 1960. The south is rain forest, the north is savanna and the rest is rain forest and wetter types of grassland. Most transport is done using the few aircraft available and minor ferry boats on the River Oubangui.

abstract
| - The Central African Republic (CAR) is a landlocked country located in the very centre of Africa. It is agrarian by nature. The economy is based on minor subsistence agriculture, but has diamonds, gold, iron, wood, cotton and bananas. The crops grown are mostly for subsistence level as they make little profit. However, cotton and timber industries and diamond mining has the potential of becoming a very lucrative business. Political instability and corruption would plague the country as would malaria and dengue fever. A series of droughts have often put the population at risk of starvation. The roads west to Sudan and north to Chad are poorly maintained.
