In what could be a repeat of Rwanda, the path of genocide in Chad mirrors that of Rwanda. Will the world do anything about it? The UN hasn't been able to do anything in Darfur region of Sudan where the genocide started before pouring into Chad. More than 200,000 people have been killed and 2.5m displaced since war broke out in Darfur four years ago.[3] The UN continues talks and diplomacy, while Muslims continues their ethnic cleansing of non-Muslims. The killing emerged from the Darfur region in Sudan where the Janjaweed Arab militia conducts cross border killing raids with locals who have now joined in the frenzy. "We are seeing elements that closely resemble what we saw in Rwanda in the genocide in 1994 and I think we have an opportunity here to avoid such a tragedy from occurring again," UNHCR's Matthew Conway said.[4] Is the military the only thing that can stop this? Negotiations and sanctions aren't doing much because China has to protect Sudan at the UN Security Council because China gets oil from Sudan. With the US military tied up, where are the rest of the world's militaries? The African Union can't even scrape up 8000 troops to police chaotic Somalia. The European militaries don't exist in the same way they used to. Their militaries were underfunded creating a military capabilities gap between the US and Europe. Meanwhile the UN talks, China gets its oil and Africans die in Sudan and Chad. __NOEDITSECTION__ From The Opinion Wiki, a Wikia wiki. From The Opinion Wiki, a Wikia wiki.
