  • A Time Trial is a type of race in the Midnight Club series in which the player must complete a race course under a time limit using a specific vehicle.
  • Time Trials are special circuit races, which were only featured in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010).
  • Time Trial is an extra game mode aside from the Story Mode that players can play in Mirror's Edge. These levels test the player's speed and knowledge and skill of using shortcuts to get to a designated point.
  • Beating all same difficulty track challenge times, unlocks reversed (R), mirrored (M) and mirrored reversed (RM) track modes for same tracks.
  • The player can save Ghosts, which are replays of Time Trials. The player can race against these ghosts on the track that the ghost was saved on. In Mario Kart 64, Ghosts were saved on Controller Paks. As such, ghosts can't be saved in the Virtual Console version of the game.
  • Time Trial is the thirteenth Special Ops level in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the third in Tier Charlie. It is based on the singleplayer mission "Cliffhanger" and the objective is to race to the finish as quickly as possible. The Infinity Ward best time for Time Trial is 1 minute 7 seconds.
  • Time Trial is a game mode that appears in every Wipeout game. The objective is to complete a number of laps as fast as possible. This game mode is similar to Speed Lap.
  • In this mode, the player must race against the clock to the end of the level, and will then be rewarded with a relic depending on how fast it was managed to completed, Sapphire being the easiest, Gold being tougher and Platinum being the hardest. Touching the stopwatch at the beginning of a level (which becomes available once the power crystal has been collected in said level) starts the time trial. Once the time trial has started, a counter will appear at the bottom left and the text "Entering Time Trial" will appear for a couple of seconds in the platformer games (excluding the GBA ones, where the text does not show up). In the racing games, the player chooses whether or not to do a time trial before the race, in which the counter replaces the player's lap times and a box counter appears
  • In Real Racing 3, a Time Trial is an event where people have to set their best race time on a certain track. Time Trials are usually unlocked together with a showcase tier but can in some cases stand alone. The player's results will be displayed on a TSM leaderboard if they are racing online. Additionally, they can race against themselves or other players by doing a ghost challenge. Players can also compete in the weekly Time Trial Tournament to earn rewards by clocking the fastest total time from all four stages, all of which contain the recommended cars from Amateur to Legend.
  • Time trials are types of combat racing events featured only in exhibition mode of Jak X. You are alone on the track, and the goal is to simply beat the highest score established either by yourself the first time through or by someone else if you are connected to the internet. As such, this event is used to challenge yourself and for practice, as well as to potentially establish a new universal high score.

In the racing games, the player chooses whether or not to do a time trial before the race, in which the counter replaces the player's lap times and a box counter appears at the top telling how many time boxes have been broken. If all boxes are broken, the player is awarded a 10 second discount at the end of the trial. When the time trial starts, in the platformer games, time boxes will replace some of the original crates on the level, such as Aku Aku Crates, TNT Crates and even Nitro Crates (the last two only happen in The Wrath of Cortex). In Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, The Huge Adventure and N-Tranced the bonus platform will disappear, but all others stay, whereas in Wrath of Cortex all special platforms including death route platforms will vanish. All current Aku Aku masks the player has will disappear in Warped, The Huge Adventure and N-Tranced, but they are kept in Wrath of Cortex, making some relics easier. In Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, the Box Counter in the status bar and at the end of the level does not disappear, making it possible to get a gem and a relic at the same time in some levels. One notable example is that in Road Crash, it's unnecessary to run for the gem separately; as all the boxes in this level become time boxes in time trial mode, the gem can be the by-product of the relic run. In Wrath of Cortex, both the box counter from the HUD and at the end of the level disappear. In The Huge Adventure and N-Tranced, the box counter at the end of the level disappears, but the one in the status bar does not.
  • In Real Racing 3, a Time Trial is an event where people have to set their best race time on a certain track. Time Trials are usually unlocked together with a showcase tier but can in some cases stand alone. Unique to Time Trials are that they require the use of drives in order to race. Once players have used all of them they must wait 18 minutes per drive or refill it automatically by spending 2 Gold. Players can additionally purchase more drives with the maximum being 5 drives. Purchasing more drives simultaneously refills the bar to full. Although, (as of 4.4.0. update) fully upgraded cars have unlimited amount of Drives, so the player can play time trials as much as they want with that vehicle, subject to servicing. The player's results will be displayed on a TSM leaderboard if they are racing online. Additionally, they can race against themselves or other players by doing a ghost challenge. It is important that players stay on the track while avoiding collisions as they will be disqualified if they go off-track or collide. Players can, however, still complete the race but it will be shown as invalid in the race results screen and will not be submitted to the TSM leaderboard. The player's best time for a Time Trial event is then ranked based on other competitors' time, from rank A (Top 1%) to rank L (Top 100%). Ranking up offers a bonus of R$1,000 per level, up to a maximum of R$5,000 at a time, even if more ranks were gained. Players can also compete in the weekly Time Trial Tournament to earn rewards by clocking the fastest total time from all four stages, all of which contain the recommended cars from Amateur to Legend.

As such, this event is used to challenge yourself and for practice, as well as to potentially establish a new universal high score. Note that you can also toggle the "Use ghost racer" option in the "Advanced options" menu (though it is on by default), which will show your race car (or another's if connected to the internet) as it raced through the previous time. This helps in gauging where you will have to be to beat the previous time, as well as show you where you went wrong so you can correct it. The ghost car used will be what was used for the previous top-held time, regardless of whether or not you switch racers or vehicles. Ghost car eco pick-ups will not affect you as the pick-up will immediately respawn. On that note, all eco pick-ups are absent aside from green eco for health and blue eco for turbo. As such, this event is all about speed. Pick your fastest race car, focus on powersliding, and try to turbo as much as possible. There are no medals, and instead you are simply trying to beat the high score.
