In the re-imagining of the first game, Harry's role is the same. However, a plot twist is revealed in the end. It turns out he died from the car crash in the beginning of the game; it has taken place 18 years ago. As soon as he goes to the lighthouse where Cheryl is, it's a clinic by Dr. Kaufmann, and his daughter has been his mysterious patient all along. It turns out Harry is just a manifestation of Cheryl's fantasy trying to deny her father's death.

Having lost his wife Jodie early in their marriage, his daughter is the most important thing he has in life, and he devotes his life to her well-being. Harry works as an ordinary run-of-the-mill non-fiction writer, and doesn't have very many relationships with other people. He is clumsy and awkward, but what he lacks in physical training, he makes up for in his courage.
  • Harry Mason's father served in Vietnam, while his grandfather served in World War II and Korea. Following in their footsteps, he was a Lieutenant in the Army when he served in the first Gulf War. After returning home, he married his longtime girlfriend Jodie and they had their first child. Three months later, the couple agreed to move to Angel Grove so that their daughter is safe, very happy and does not grow up in a rough environment like Brooklyn and later becoming a bad influence. Never having a son of his own, he was approving of Beverly's close friendship with Theo and saw him as a son he never had.
