Dr. agrar. Hermann Julius Bracher (28 September 1895 – 29 October 1974) was a highly decorated Oberst in the German military during World War I and in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Hermann Bracher was captured by Soviet troops during Operation Bagration in 1944. He was a prisoner of war in the Soviet forced labour camp Vorkuta (Воркута) north of the Polar circle in Siberia. Unlike most of his fellow prisoners, he survived and returned home to his wife and four children to Tübingen on January 2, 1954.
