LYKA CRANES LIMITED of Preston in Lancashire England builds terminal and industrial tractors under the brandname of Shuntmaster using new and time-expired roadtractor chassis as well as other resources for their vehicles. Among the first was a series of 16 Tonners based on old Atkinson tractors with Scammell auto-couplings.These couplings were retained, but new equipment built on Shutmaster vehicles included a oneman all steel tiltcab with rear jack-knife access door, power-steering and one rear axle. The heaviest model currently listed uses a Atkinson chassis with a Gardner Diesel 6LXB engine, with Kirkstall axles and suspension and with Allison automatic transmission and comes fitted with hydraulic lifting fifth wheel coupling for moving around any trailers needed.

  • LYKA CRANES LIMITED of Preston in Lancashire England builds terminal and industrial tractors under the brandname of Shuntmaster using new and time-expired roadtractor chassis as well as other resources for their vehicles. Other equipment they usually have include a heavier rearaxle and front steering or rear axledrive option with normal front axle steering at a customer choice. Towards 1981 a demountable body shunter was also developed now using a Ford D1110 truck chassis and mechaniclas this model was extended at the front to take a lowline oneman cab ahead of the front steering axle only. This model has single tyres all around and has a built in hydraulic lifting subframe for any 8 ton capacity containers using a hydraulic equalizing system to counteract uneven weight distibution when raising the loads needed in industrial containers. They are very popular in aifields and airports all over the UK to deliver goods in planes and equipment plus are useful for several plane repairs and for the maintenace done on aircraft and helicopters.
