A game system usually refers to either a roleplaying game (RPG), or the system of rules used in a RPG. These are two different things. A typical RPG contains the explanation of a set of rules as well as some content. A system of rules is merely the set of rules, although the rules can still bias the RPG using them in a certain direction.
