Dr. Henry Jonathan "Hank" Pym, is an American biochemist with extensive knowledge in various scientific fields, married Maria Trovaya, a brave and beautiful young woman who had been a political dissident in her native Hungary, from which she had fled. Naively believing that his American citizenship would protect her, Henry and Maria Pym traveled to Hungary shortly after their marriage. The Pyms were confronted by a hit-man hired to assassinate him and his wife. Hank was shot and miraculously survived, but Maria didn't. Pym was greatly distraught by his wife's death, and decided to do whatever he could in the future to battle injustice and inhumanity. Years later, he met a woman named Janet van Dyne, whom he fell in love with and decided get married, restarting a new chapter in his life.
Creating the Pym Particles
Back in the United States working in the worldwide peace-keeping organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D., Pym discovered a rare group of subatomic particles, which have become known as the "Pym Particles." Pym was able, through the application of magnetic fields, to entrap the particles within two separate serums. One serum would reduce the size of persons and objects, and the other would restore them to their normal size. Pym tested the reducing serum on himself and discovered it was more powerful than he had expected: it reduced him to the size of an insect. Thinking that S.H.I.E.L.D. might find out about the particles, Pym kept both of them in a vault after realizing that he could get arrested for creating a serum without the authority from the organization.
Avengers Initiative
He later quits the team without telling his true reasons until it was later found by the organization. Instead of arresting Pym, Nick Fury and the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. were impressed about his finest works, especially with the particles and offered him another chance to rejoin S.H.I.E.L.D. once again, convinced recruiting him and his wife Janet into the classified S.H.I.E.L.D. contract known as the Avengers Initiative, a contract S.H.I.E.L.D. created to form a team of super-powered individuals.
Reviving Captain America
After locating the approximate area the crash site of the Valkyrie may be located, Nick Fury sent a team led by Hank Pym to find the crash site on Greenland. Steve Rogers, Captain America's body was found inside the wrecked aircraft, perfectly preserved in ice. His body was later defrosted and then shipped to S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters in New York City, where he later woke up into the modern world of the 21st century.
