| - In the ancient past, worlds inside the Large Magellanic Cloud, including Garmillas, were seeded by the Aquarius people with genetic material that would give rise to multiple humanoid races (Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark). The Aquarius also constructed at least one subspace gate near the edge of the Cloud, allowing for transit across intergalactic distances to the rogue planet Balun, the Milky Way, and the Small Magellanic Cloud ("Wish Upon a Star", "Point of No Return", "Out of the Forest of Memory").

The Cloud more recently came under the violent rule of an empire originating on the planet Iscandar, located inside the Cloud ("The Distant Promised Land"). Long after Iscandar withdrew from its conquered territories, the Great Garmillas Empire arose, and in the year 2199, it exercises unchallenged control over the entire Cloud ("Wish Upon a Star").
