Kathy Borders was elected to Parliament in December 2972 representing Lake Bulbswater. Following the resignation of Hilda Glass, Borders stood for the leadership. Borders was defeated by Kim Mountjoy on the third ballot in a tight vote. In 2978, Borders was elected Deputy Leader over Maxine Crosio by a somewhat large margin. Borders became General Secretary following the resignation of Aaron Silver. Her leadership was notable in that it was the first real conservative leadership of the SDP or any of its predecessors.
