Calvin claims that Hobbes ate Tommy for making fun of his fondness for his stuffed companion; Hobbes did not refute the claim, and added that his young meal needed a bath. The name Tommy Chesnutt comes from one of Bill Watterson's college friends, Tom Chesnutt (Chesnutt's name also made a cameo in one of Watterson's political cartoons).
