The franchise moved to Moose Jaw from Winnipeg after the 1983–84 season, where they had previously been named the Winnipeg Warriors. The Warrior's first head coach was Graham James. James was convicted of sexual assault against Sheldon Kennedy and one other WHL player and spent time in prison. In October 2009, former Moose Jaw Warrior great Theoren Fleury revealed he had been molested by James while a member of the Moose Jaw Warriors. The team has never won the WHL championship.
