- Lois Lane is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist for the Daily Planet of Metropolis and the primary love interest of Superman, appearing in The Darkness/Superman two issue comic.
- On the parallel-universe of Earth-One, a couple named Sam and Ella Lane give birth to their first daughter on their farm in the small, rural community of Pittsdale, Iowa. This girl is named Lois, and when she entered high school, she excelled in all of her studies. During her junior year, a large Metropolis newspaper known as the Daily Planet sponsored a nationwide contest for high school students. Whoever succeeded in submitting the best report would one day be awarded a position with the paper. Lois was selected to participate in the contest and met Clark Kent from Smallville.
- Lois Lane is (of course) the Romantic Interest of Superman. She first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June, 1938), the first published Superman story. As such, she's the Trope Codifier for (a type of) superhero love interest- the one who doesn't realize that the hero she loves is also someone close to her. The characters inspired by her are countless. The first Lois died during the events of Infinite Crisis (as did the first Superman) only for both to be brought back during the Blackest Night crisis as Black Lanterns.
- Lois Joanne Lane-Kent is a renowned reporter working for the Daily Planet, Clark Kent's wife, and the bold outspoken cousin of Chloe Sullivan. Prior to that, she was a waitress at the Talon, campaign manager for Jonathan Kent when he ran for Kansas State Senate, chief of staff for Martha Kent as a U.S. Senator for Kansas, and a reporter for the Metropolis Inquisitor.

Lois' physical appearance was originally based on a Model (person) hired by Siegel and Shuster named Joanne Carter, who would later marry Siegel. Lois's personality was based on Torchy Blaine, a female reporter featured in a series of films from the 1930s. Siegel took her name from actress Lola Lane, who portrayed Torchy in one of the middle entries.
- Lois Lane's character was created from many influences. Her physical appearance was originally based on Joanne Carter, a model hired by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Joanne Carter would later marry Siegel. The character's personality was based on Torchy Blane, a gutsy, beautiful headline-hunting reporter, portrayed by Glenda Farrell in a series of films from the 1930s. Siegel took her name from Lola Lane, who also played Torchy Blane in one of the films. Lois is also based on real life journalist Nellie Bly. She was ranked 78th in Comics Buyer's Guide's "100 Sexiest Women in Comics" list.
- The daughter of General Sam and Elinore Lane, Lois was born in a U.S. Army hospital outside of Wiesbaden, Germany. Sam Lane had always wanted a boy and did not hide his disappointment from Lois, who became a model of self-sufficiency in response to her father's emotional distance. After high school, Lois moved to Metropolis and worked full time at the Daily Planet, rapidly becoming the Daily Planet's leading investigative reporter, winning many awards and a daredevil reputation. Lois was the person who first named the superhero "Superman", due to the Kryptonian "S" crest on his costume. Befriending the superhero, Lois also gained a new partner, Clark Kent, whom she initially disliked; seeing him as a rival, but eventually fell in love and married. Only later did she discover that Clark and
- Lois Lane attended Metropolis U and learned absolutely nothing. Except possibly bad fashion sense. (Example: that white skirt in Superman: The Movie. Geez.) Perry White would like you to think she is a super terrific reporter. That is an elaborate, poorly constructed front. Just like that sentence. In all of her incarnations, she has failed to:
* make a connection between Clark Kent and Superman
* remove the parsley from between her teeth
* smile straight
* stand straight
* have a good hair day
* quit smoking cigarettes
