Although pirate radio stations were rampant in the years leading up to the Insurrection, the first broadcast of the conflict was made in 2492 from Far Isle. Throughout the Insurrection, Human-Covenant War, and post war eras, various pirate radio stations continued to broadcast pro-independence rhetoric, as well as music.

Throughout the Insurrection, Human-Covenant War, and post war eras, various pirate radio stations continued to broadcast pro-independence rhetoric, as well as music. As well as broadcasting their opinions, pirate radio stations were also instrumental in several battles against UNSC forces, jamming their radios, as well as spreading misinformation on stations they knew were listened in on by Office of Naval Intelligence Section Two operatives.
