A gelsphere was the primary storage device for the Thinking Machines. A complete copy of Omnius would fit on a gelsphere to keep his records as up-to-date as possible. Many thinking machines were tasked with piloting ships carrying update spheres to the various incarnations of Omnius, in update ships, synchronizing thus all the incarnations together, forming therefore a cohesive single omnipresent sentience.
