The RG250 is one of only a handful of RG models with humbucker/single/single pickup configuration. It's also one of only a few RG models produced with a 22-fret neck. It has the sharp-edged body style which distinguishes it from the older Roadstar body. The RG250 features a basswood body with a flamed maple top and back bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret fingerboard with dot inlays. Components include Ibanez pickups with a humbucker at the bridge and single coil pickups in the middle and neck positions and a double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut.

The controls consist of volume and tone pots with a 5-way pickup selector and a Duo-Sound coil-tap toggle for the humbucker. The RG240 is a similar model without the flamed maple top and back. The RG250 was discontinued after just one year.
