In essence, a scenario is anything that changes game play in a way that alters major rules of the game. Thus, adding in a Harbormaster Special Victory Point card is not a scenario, but rather a variant. Thus, adding in a Harbormaster Special Victory Point card is not a scenario, but rather a variant. However, adding fishing chevrons and allowing fishing on the coasts of Catan does change gameplay, thus making it a scenario. There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of scenarios available for The Settlers of Catan and most require only the basic game and some additional components from the scenario. Others, however, require new hexes, cards, or even boards for the scenario to work properly. For available scenarios, follow one of these links:
