Jewel is good at questioning people and very perceptive. Thus Rebakah Cooper is quite uneasy when Goodwin once asks her to fetch him and he questions her all the way to Goodwin's and doesn't even miss that Rosto the Piper is flirting with Beka. He and his partner are the ones set onto the investigation of Rolond Lofts' murdering, although they didn't pursue it to their best knowledge, considering that Yoav's sister had been driven to commit suicide on Crookshank's behalf. Jewel is also a part of the investigation concerning the false coins in Corus and is one of the Dogs brought to Port Caynn, when Lord Gershom decides to act in force.
