__NOWYSIWYG__ I was thinking we have badges for adding cats, photos, and edits, why not refs. There are as important as the others. G o d s r u l e - T a l k t o m e ! 21:15, December 21, 2012 (UTC) I believe we don't decide what categories badges cover-- Wikia does. So there's really nothing we can do to change this. 22:06, December 21, 2012 (UTC) Agreed with ATFF, I think they are preset. We just change the picture for the badge and the name of the badge. 23:05, December 21, 2012 (UTC) Yep, that's pretty much the case. Even though it is possible to get customized badges (as it's been done in the past) I'm not sure what the process for that is, but from my understanding it takes a lot of hassle. It's probably not worth pursuing, to be frank. -- 23:16, December 21, 2012 (UTC) Even

To add a reference, you have to make an edit, and there is no way one can discern between an edit made to correct spelling, or on to add a reference. Beside from the fact that it's impossible, it's also just unneeded. 02:02, December 22, 2012 (UTC) Per Lostris, there is no telling whether you added a ref or just a simple spelling correction. Categories are different because you add them with the box add the bottom, but references are added by edits. 04:41, December 23, 2012 (UTC) As I also have my own wiki, I found that badges are open to edited in images, the badge name, and adding more category edits; as example if I add "Flying animals" category, so whoever edit in "Flying animals" category will have a plus badge. 11:20, December 23, 2012 (UTC) @Taikai What about images? G o d s r u l e - T a l k t o m e ! 11:21, December 23, 2012 (UTC) The counter is set based on the prefix of what is happened. For example, when you edit a page, you get +1 for overall editing. However, you also get a plus for the amount of images that you added and a plus for the amount of categories that you added if you added them while editing the page directly. The counter cannot make a distinction between what exactly you are doing, though it can discern between the addition of [[File:whatever.png]] and [[Category:Whatever]] as opposed to simply correcting spelling -or adding a reference. Adding a reference is done (here) by adding a template. We do not -and should not- have a counter for templates. Even if we could make a badge that specifically counts that, there would likely be no way to discern between the addition of a referencing template and the addition of let's say an infobox template or an only mentioned template. 11:27, December 23, 2012 (UTC) Yes we could by using <ref name="blah"> </ref> . That can be counted. G o d s r u l e - T a l k t o m e ! 11:30, December 23, 2012 (UTC) (Double Edit Conflicts) Gods, the image is added and we can see it on RWA the differences of spelling/grammar check edit and adding image; you can add image easily using the "Add Features and Media" section on the right. Anyway, adding references is not a special feature that apply in every wiki, so we can't add any badges outside the "category" I explained above. 11:31, December 23, 2012 (UTC) Acer, we can, that's not the issue. We'd likely just need wikia's help for that. Gods, that could perhaps work. But then there is still the minor fact that it is unnecessary to have a badge for that, cause 1. it will always coincide with an extra count for the edit badge, and 2. badges are made for the sole purpose (normally) to entice people to edit and keep them interested in coming back. Referencing stuff is already a common habit around here, so why would we need the extra incentive for something that's already being done well? The only thing to gain from this is extra points, which seems a pretty lousy reason to go through the trouble of getting an entirely new badge to work. 11:36, December 23, 2012 (UTC) Okay I'll admit it, I am kinda a badge editor. The only reason I learnt how to add fanon cats was to get the cats badges. I think that if we add refs badges then it would motivate people even more. G o d s r u l e - T a l k t o m e ! 15:01, December 26, 2012 (UTC) It's sad to see you leaving the wiki, I've read your last message. Outside from that, most people here are badge-editor, and count on me about that. But some of them can manage the edits positively, so they are not solely badge editing. As example, my badges are the motivational reason why am I editing. And I edit only when there are some mistakes. But, still I don't really support adding references badge, it is a common habit that we have now, but adding the badges will be increasing the count of vandals / badge-editor who solely edit for badges, and they may be adding unneeded references. 15:20, December 26, 2012 (UTC) I hope you can see that we are not going to create a badge solely so people can earn it if they serve no further point. 16:13, December 26, 2012 (UTC) Of course I do! But... What is "you" stand for? Who are you referring to? 16:29, December 26, 2012 (UTC) . . . the proposer of the forum perhaps? The one person who has been in favor of this? 16:32, December 26, 2012 (UTC) Ah, got it. So, close this forum, maybe? 16:33, December 26, 2012 (UTC) That's not how things are done here as you know. Three days no comment is the rule, or the forum losing it's subject. 16:38, December 26, 2012 (UTC) I don't understand this whole it is a common thing to do point. By that means we can remove our cats badges and image badges. Another point, more badge editors. I give no light to that. What about the cats and image badges? G o d s r u l e - T a l k t o m e ! 15:35, December 28, 2012 (UTC) I don't see how you cannot see the difference between there being a badge for that and actually creating one with the sole intent to enable badge editing. Sure, you can make a point about people only adding images and categories for the sole purpose of gaining those badges, but they are already here. That were standard badges made by wikia. What you are requesting is that we actually go through the trouble of creating an extra badge for the sole purpose of enabling badge editing. It serves no other goal what so ever as referencing is already a common habit. 16:41, December 28, 2012 (UTC) By making this badge we are ensuring more people will learn how to reference things and make it easier on all of you guys. 18:03, December 28, 2012 (UTC) Everyone is already doing it, what's there to make it easier? Besides, badges should not be the sole drive for people wanting to help out. How to create references is made ludicrously easy thanks too Thailog and his nifty template for that and how to exactly add a badge is already thoroughly explained here. I don't know about the other editors, perhaps they are the ones doing all the referencing work nowadays -though I doubt it as I have seen no such thing in the RC- but I hardly have to reference anything lately. The only page that lacked referencing lately was the newly created Slang in the World of Avatar page, but that was swiftly taken care of, no badge enticement needed. Other newly created pages are already created with the references already there. Making the badges serves only one purpose: gaining the badge and subsequently gain more point to rise in a ranking that doesn't even matter. Personally, the only badge that truly matters is the consecutive editing days badge as that's the one that keeps people coming back. All the editing badges only open the door to badge editing -as you yourself acknowledges. The referencing badge is already more than covered by the editing badge, we do not need a special badge just for that. It's purpose is already a habit among editors, so it would just be an empty shiny thingy to have -and that's not the goal of the badge system. 18:12, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
