- Elven Chain Mail is very light armor; it has a weight of 7 lbs and it provides an armor class 5. It has the same protection modifiers as Chain Mail: +2 against slashing and -2 against crushing attacks. The lower weight and the craftmanship makes it possible to wear by thieves and fighter / mages and still be allowed to cast spells or perform thieving abilities. Druids, mages and sorcerers can't wear this armor. In Baldur's Gate: EE, it can be obtained from a cleric in the fight against Simmeon.

| Desirability
| - Elven chain mail is very useful in the early-to-mid game due to its high PV bonus with no DV penalty; it is inferior to the ancient mummy wrapping, however. It is also notable as being the best non-artifact, and only smithable armor that does not cause monks to lose their martial arts DV bonus. Due to its low weight, it is also popular as an armor choice in the Quickling Tree, and commonly carried by players as replacement armor.
