- In the 2150s, she became a noted reporter, particularly following the Xindi attack in 2153. In January 2155, Brooks was one of the reporters covering the negotiations for the creation of the Coalition of Planets. At the same time, Brooks was working for Starfleet Intelligence, covertly gathering information from the alien delegates' translators. She also made several visits to the Orpheus Mining Colony on Luna shortly before the Coalition talks, leading Captain Jonathan Archer to suspect her of being a member of Terra Prime. She was cleared of suspicion when Ensign Masaro revealed himself as a Terra Prime agent. Brooks was romantically involved with Travis Mayweather sometime prior to 2151, but their relationship ended when he accepted a post aboard the Enterprise (NX-01). They tried to rekindle their relationship while the Enterprise was at Earth during the Coalition talks, but in the end resolved to be friends. (ENT episodes: "Demons", "Terra Prime") Brooks continued to cover the Coalition of Planets for her service up to and following its formal foundation, and during the attacks on Draylax, Alpha Centauri, and the ECS Kobayashi Maru in 2155. (ENT novels: The Good That Men Do, Kobayashi Maru) One of Brooks' rivals was Keisha Naquase, who was the first to report to editor Nash McEvoy when the Coalition voted to declare war in 2155. (ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru) Later in 2155, Brooks covered the Earth-Romulan War from the front lines and often delivered scathing criticisms of Starfleet. These criticisms led Starfleet to ask McEvoy to reign Brooks in. Brooks refused to cease her criticism and McEvoy was eventually forced to recall her to Earth. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing) On May 18, 2156, an article that Brooks wrote about the Romulan attack on Starbase 1 titled, Starbase 1 Attacked! was published. The article was posted to the United Sol System Information Network and within ten minutes of posting was read by more than two billion people.
