  • Tenzin Gyat was a Batrian Jedi Master of the Ikolan Tribe who lived in the final days of the Galactic Republic. A descendant of the legendary New Sith Wars-era Jedi Aang Giit, Tenzin felt great pressure throughout his life to live up to his ancestor's legacy. Trained as a Padawan by famed Jedi mediator Doktuar Gallif, Tenzin followed in the footsteps of both his Master and ancestor in adopting the path of the Jedi Consular. Tenzin trained a number of his own apprentices, including two humans from the planet Higalik: Noatak, who would eventually fall to the dark side of the Force and become known as Amon, and Korra Atiqtalaaq. He served on the Jedi High Council for a number of years, before stepping down in 34 BBY. During a retreat on Chandrila, Tenzin met and fell in love with a woman named Pema, and the two wed in secret. Although he truly loved Pema, Tenzin became wracked with guilt over his violation of the Jedi Code, and soon ended the affair, unaware that he had sired a daughter with the woman. Returning to Coruscant, Tenzin decided to take on a new apprentice as a form of penance for his actions. He chose Korra Atiqtalaaq, and despite initial conflict of personalities, the two soon became very close. Eventually, Korra and Tenzin were called into action in the last days of the Clone Wars, taking a tour of duty in the Outer Rim and reinforcing Republic efforts on worlds such as Felucia and Balan-Quod. While on Cato Nui, Tenzin and Korra were betrayed by their clone troopers, who were ordered to carry out Order 66, which called for the immediate execution of all Jedi, by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Although he and Korra were able to hold the clone troopers at bay for a time, Tenzin recognized that they would eventually be overrun, and ordered Korra to flee Cato Nui. As his apprentice made her escape, Tenzin poured his remaining energy into holding the clones off, giving his own life so that Korra would be able to live.
