The Pendragon class started life as a Federated Commonwealth project whose goal was to develop a warship that could counter rumored frigate and destroyer classes under development in the Capellan Confederation, Draconis Combine, and Free Worlds League. With the succession of the Lyran Alliance the design team was split in two with the Lyran members going on to create the rival Teiwaz class. The Pendragon is intended for long range warfare carrying 1,000 capital grade missiles along with long range Naval energy weapons, and numerous aerospace fighters. The first ships were commissioned in the last days of the Fedcom Civil War, and for over a decade in its aftermath they were the heaviest Federated Suns warship class in production.
