A system is unstable if it consists of or is dominated by a regenerative feedback loop, i.e. if the number of negative correlators is even (positive feedback). Of note, in unstable systems the structure that generates the behaviour is in any case the same, i.e. there is an even number of negative relationships resulting in positive (regenerative) feedback.
