| - Owatatsumi Kami ("Great Water God Deity") was the Apex Beast of Tokyo until about 1889. It commanded all the supernatural denizens of the city at the height of its power. Its reign ended with the Dawn of Heroes, when Heroes began to spring up rapidly and far out of proportion to the city's population of Begotten, triggering a dark age for their kind. The folklore of the Begotten gives various accounts of how Owatatsumi triggered the Dawn of Heroes, if in fact it did. In one version, Owatatsumi tried to summon otherworldly souls from all Japan to its council and inadvertently awoke Heroes all over Honshu. In another story, Otawatsumi created a sword that would transform the bearer into a Hero for it to fight, in order to cement its Legend. This tale also ends with Owatatsumi’s death from such great hubris. However, according to some Japanese Begotten, Owatatsumi is still alive, biding its time and growing in power. They believe it will eventually return to end the reign of Heroes by devouring all the Beasts of Tokyo. For the most part, this is regarded as little more than a myth; however, those who do believe it are preparing themselves to resist (or assist) Otawatsumi's return. No further information is given on Owatatsumi, but based on its name it may have been a Makara.
