Prior to his first appearance in Sonic the Comic, Blockhead Bill and Society Max were in the Mandrake Swamp, searching for the root that transforms Max into a raging beast. Whilst there, the pair were captured by Root and subjected to the Mind Root, a plant that brainwashes its host and forces them to obey Root. Their mission was to return to New Tek City and pollute the waters with a chemical compound designed to transform the city into a swamp. Unfortunately, Bill was sidetracked when he spotted who he thought was the Crimson Cobra (actually Sonic the Hedgehog) and attacked him. Bill and Max promptly destroyed the home of Maude and Harold Mudd, before fighting off the Chaotix Crew and destroying a road bridge. Unfortunately, Bill was sidetracked when he spotted who he thought was the Crimson Cobra (actually Sonic the Hedgehog) and attacked him. Bill and Max promptly destroyed the home of Maude and Harold Mudd, before fighting off the Chaotix Crew and destroying a road bridge. They were soon stopped by Sonic and Bill was informed by Mighty that he was really fighting Sonic. The group returned to Chaotix Tower, but Root's mind control caused Bill to go insane again, attempting to return to the Mandrake Swamp. Prevented from doing so by Chaotix, Bill and Max were soon plucked from the sky by the vision of Root. In front of his master, Bill attempted to hold his dignity despite his failure, continuously insisting he was fighting the Crimson Cobra. Bill was forced to hand the vial back to Root and later explains to the captured Chaotix of his own earlier capture. With Sonic escaping the effects of the Mind Root, Blockhead Bill converted his friend into a fierce beast once more and attempted to bring down his target. However, the villain promptly berated his steed when it became apparent that Max was ticklish. Bill was eventually released from his mind control when Sonic defeated Root, the Mind Root dropping off his head. With the destruction of the Special Zone, Blockhead Bill likely perished along with the rest of the universe. However, a pin-up by Fast Ashadonic showed Bill, Max and Turbo caught in the void between the Omni-Viewer and the Ring of Eternity, suggesting there is hope for him yet. He was also pictured by Fast Ashadonic to be riding Extreme Gear in the Sonic the Back-to-School Special, suggesting he was one of the participants in the race between Sonic and the Babylon Rogues.
