The UNSC Defense Council was an executive UNSC governmental committee that presided over and oversaw all major military decisions made by UNSC High Command. The Defense Council was responsible with frequently meeting the Joint Chiefs of Staff to discuss the operations of Central Command and to either approve or disapprove of its actions. It was established several months after the end of the Human-Covenant War. Its predecessor was the UNSC Security Committee, but with the end of the Human-Covenant War, the civilian government insisted on repealing of military martial law and civilian control over the UNSC Defense Force. Because of the Defense Council's interference with the Defense Force's autonomy, it gained notoreity in the UNSC armed forces.
