A Christmas Held Captive is an original musical farce conceived and scripted in 1986 by TV scriptwriter Lavina Dawson and her son, Michael A. Dawson. The songs were composed by Robert J. Sherman and Christopher M. Dawson who were 18 and 16 years old respectively during the collaboration. The show premiered in December 1986 and played for six weeks at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. It was directed by Oliver Muirhead (who is best known for his work as a character actor). Muirhead also played the part of "Constable Scrooge" in the original production.
