The 2003 Mountain Dew Southern 500 was a Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup) event held at Darlington Speedway on August 21, 2003. It was a bitter weekend, as it had already been announced at the track would lose its fabled Labor Day weekend date. Terry Labonte won one for tradition, holding off Kevin Harvick by 1.6 seconds for Labonte's final career win. Points leader Matt Kenseth finished 14th and still held a 389-point championship lead on Dale Earnhardt, Jr (25th). Stats
